6.P.2.1 - SWBAT recognize that all matter is made up of atoms and atoms of the same element are all alike, but are different from the atoms of other elements.
I can recognize that all matter is made up of atoms.
I can recognize that atoms of the same element are similar, but different from atoms of other elements.
a) I will investigate the structure of an atom (i.e. protons, neutrons, electrons).
b) I will define an element.
c) I will compare and contrast an atom and element
d) I will group elements based on physical properties such as melting point, boiling point, and freezing point

Student Artifact
Option #1 (Basic): Create a periodic table of elements that we can use to teach people as they walk down our hall. Students who select this group will work together to divide the elements and create a portion of the element cards. View the examples that I found online for a better idea of the quality that I expect.
Things to Include:
Things to Include:
- Element Name
- Abbreviation
- Atomic Number
- Atomic Mass
- Melting Point
- Freezing Point
- Boiling Point
- Density
- Founder and year discovered
- Common Uses
Option #2 (Advanced): Create an artifact that is modeled after the periodic table of elements, using whatever items you wish. Remember our discussions in class about why elements are grouped the way that they are! View some examples that I found online.
Things to Include:
Things to Include:
- Explanation - Tell the reader about your periodic table, how you arranged your periods and groups and why you chose your topic
- Title
- Labels for each period and group
- Visuals for each "element"
- These will be displayed so make them high quality and something that you are proud of!
